Warner: Hopefully, we're showed some respect in Africa

Warner: Hopefully, we're showed some respect in Africa”

Cricket South Africa (CSA) interim chief executive Jacques Faul has pleaded with fans to treat Steve Smith and David Warner with respect and not "embarrass" the governing body with poor behavior when the Australia batsmen tour the country for the first time since a ball-tampering scandal.

The former Australia captain, addressing the media after returning from South Africa, had broken down while speaking about his family and the pain he must have caused them due to his involvement in the biggest scandal to hit the sport in a long time.

"They probably play better when it's like that". It will be two years after the highly controversial ball-tampering scandal happened which did irreparable damage to the image of Australian cricket and saw three of the Kangaroos' players being banned for variable amounts of time.

Candice Warner had a tryst with New Zealand rugby union global Williams more than 10 years before the incident. The left-handed opener had also gotten into an altercation with a fan during one of the matches and with both players returning to South Africa after two years, Cricket Australia is sending moral support in form of some officials as well with the team.

Briefly.co.za learned that since then, the two players have salvaged their careers, with Warner winning the coveted Allan Border Medal, Austrialia's highest cricket honour, with Smith coming second. The series begins with a T20 worldwide at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on the 21st of February. 'I just go there and I've got a job to do and that's to score runs and win games for Australia and put us in a good position.

"'For me personally, it won't be hard at all", Warner told Sydney radio station 2GB.

"I copped it in England; I actually enjoyed that and played along with it."

"It's nothing we haven't experienced before. we'll be fine". The same was witnessed during the ICC World Cup 2019 and Ashes as the spectators booed Smith and Warner for the mistake they committed in Cape Town.

Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood said he had no concerns about how Warner and Smith would handle their reception.

"We will probably give it a mention in team meetings, like we did before the Ashes and World Cup".

"If you look at our squad selections over the last couple of months, it's all been pretty consistent", said Finch.

"There hasn't been a huge amount of risk-taking in our selections, so we've got confidence in the 14 guys in South Africa that potentially they can take us forward to the T20 World Cup".
