NBA Free Agency Rumors: Lakers 'Had Hoped' To Sign Reggie Jackson”

Detroit Pistons guard Reggie Jackson (1) drives to the basket as New York Knicks guard Wayne Ellington (2) defends during the second quarter at Little Caesars Arena.

The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly considering signing free agent shooting guard JR Smith - and it looks like LeBron James would be thrilled to see his former teammate in the purple and gold.

Jackson signed a five-year, $80 million contract with the Pistons in 2015. He played in the first two games of the season then missed almost two months with a back injury.

The 26-year-old Harkless was traded earlier this month to the Knicks from the Los Angeles Clippers as part of the Marcus Morris deal.

Jackson has battled an injury this season and only played in 14 games, starting 10 of them.

The Los Angeles Lakers have been rumored to be interested in several buyout candidates but they still have a practical issue in the way: they have a full roster and would have to waive someone on their current team, which has leaned on team chemistry all season long.
