Bank of England releases new 20 pound note

Bank of England releases new 20 pound note”

The new £20 note bears the face of artist JMW Turner.

The note includes a JMW Turner self-portrait with one of his most famous pictures - "The Fighting Temeraire" - in the background. A new polymer £50 featuring Alan Turing will be issued next year.

It includes two see-through windows and a two colour foil to help beat forgers.

The Bank of England launched its new £20 banknote today (February 20).

This will be the first note to bear her signature.

But the Bank of England told the publication not all of them are being reserved (or else we'd have none), with a batch of rare AA serial number notes entering general circulation too.

"Moving the 20 pound note to polymer marks a major step forward in our fight against counterfeiting", the BoE's chief cashier, Sarah John, said.

The new notes will appear on cashpoints over the course of the next two weeks.

The Bank has said that polymer notes last longer than paper notes and remain in better condition.

Bank of England Governor Mark Carney said: "Our banknotes celebrate the UK's extraordinarily rich and diverse heritage and highlight the contributions of its greatest citizens".

The well-publicised banknote, which is the first time this denomination is printed on a polymer substrate, was the first time the Bank of England asked the public directly for suggestions about the re-design of the denomination.

You can still use the old £20 notes for the next six months, ahead of its legal tender status being withdrawn. Turner's art was transformative.

The new £20 note goes into circulation today, but you can keep using the old version for the time being.

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has been working with the Bank to make money accessible for people with sight loss. M. W. Turner and is the third denomination in the series to convert to a polymer substrate, following on from the £5 and £10, in 2016 and 2017, respectively. We hope the creation of these notes will help enable people with sight loss to use money more easily and with confidence. According to the Financial Inclusion Commission, an independent campaigning body made up of parliamentarians and experts, almost two million people in Britain don't have a bank account, and thus, they need notes and coins to run their households and lives.
