Coronavirus: 3rd death related to COVID-19 reported in Ontario”

A man in his 80s from Haliburton Kawartha Pineridge Public Health Unit has died, but how he became infected has not been revealed.

There are eight cases that have been deemed resolved.

Seventeen of the 59 new cases were identified by the region of Ontario they were located in, including two cases in Toronto, four in Peel Region, one in Hastings-Prince Edward County, one in Durham Region, three in Simcoe-Muskoka, five in York Region and one in Ottawa.

All of the other new cases are pending.

Anyone who thinks they may have COVID-19 is asked to self-isolate and seek advice over the phone.

Gardner also confirmed a new case in the region (bringing the area's total to nine confirmed cases) in a Bradford West Gwillimbury woman in her 30s.

In Wuhan, China there have been "no cases reported publicly" for two days.

The man was a close contact of the first man who died. "It speaks to the need to be more aware of the seriousness of the current situation than ever and that we, as a community, as organizations and as individuals, need to work together to protect one another", said Dr. Charles Gardner, Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit medical officer of health.

Yesterday afternoon (March 20th), the Pembroke Regional Hospital (PRH) was designated the Regional Admissions Centre for any COVID-19 patients in Renfrew County. The 42 other cases' locations are listed as "pending".

A large proportion of cases involve either travel overseas or contact with an infected person.

Health officials previously said they were working to increase the province's testing capacity to complete 5,000 tests per day.
