Mikel Arteta recovers from Coronavirus after testing positive few days back”

ARSENAL have cancelled plans to return to training this week, telling players to remain at home because of the coronavirus pandemic.

News emerged on Thursday 12 March that Arteta had received a positive test, leaving the Gunners squad and members of staff in lockdown ever since.

'I want to win the Champions League and lots of domestic titles to make Arsenal's fans very happy, ' the Gunners starlet said in the April edition of FourFourTwo magazine. "On Tuesday afternoon I was feeling so-so and I went to see the doctor but he wasn't there".

"We are liaising with the local authority and the areas being explored range from providing online coaching and teaching, and staff volunteering to have regular phone contact with elderly local people feeling isolated".

Arteta had to wait 48 hours to get his results back.

The Spanish boss who was the first high-profile name in the Premier League to test positive to COVID-19 has now recovered.

The Premier League were seemingly not aware of the situation, confirming that the fixture was set to go ahead as planned just minutes before Arsenal revealed that Arteta had tested positive for coronavirus.

Arsenal are assessing government advice on a daily basis, and at times even hourly, as they weigh up whether to return to training this week.

The self-isolation period ay be coming to an end but there is still a good chance players and staff will be told to stay at home for longer, given the increased emphasis on social distancing.

"As an outcome of the present circumstance we are clear it would certainly be improper as well as reckless to ask players to come back at this moment".

"Therefore our men's first team, women and academy players are all remaining at home".

The Guardian reports the decision not to train was made by Arteta, managing director Vinai Venkatesham, head of football Raul Sanllehi and technical director Edu and in consultation with head of medical services, Gary O'Driscoll, who has led Arsenal's strategy in combating the coronavirus.
