Nearly One-Fifth of Providers Dealing With Higher Medical Mask Prices

Nearly One-Fifth of Providers Dealing With Higher Medical Mask Prices”

At the end of January, 3M said it was "ramping to full production" and "going 24/7" in N95 production.

Target said on Twitter that the masks were being sold in error in "select Seattle stores" and that it was removing them from shelves and donating them to the Washington Department of Health.

Roman said he was "disappointed" that the masks were selling in some stores over the weekend, alluding to Target. 3M lived-up its word about production.

3M is the largest manufacturer of medical face masks, in particular the N95 respiratory mask.

Around 350,000 should arrive in NY alone on Monday, Roman said.

"We're ready to expedite respirators to wherever they're needed", Roman said.

Before Sunday, news reports and video showed a Target in Seattle with shelves full of the N95s. Target has apologized and said it is reviewing its inventory for additional masks.

"There was some inventory, as you would expect, throughout the supply chain from what was happening even as we came into 2020", according to Roman. A change signed into law on Wednesday lets US makers that produce N95 masks for industrial applications to sell them without fear of accountability. Of those masks that were domestically produced, more than 90% are designated together with the remainder slated for critical sectors, such as pharmaceuticals, food, and energy, according to the note. Hospitals and health care workers say the do-it-yourself face masks are a last resort but better than nothing.

"All of that allowed us to shift what are normally industrial respirators, the N95, over to healthcare workers". While 3M is now operating at capacity, Roman wrote that the business had hastened its investments in increasing capacity internationally and expected to be able to produce nearly 2 billion these masks yearly, up from 1.1 billion today, within the next 12 weeks.

The coronavirus crisis has caused an worldwide shortage of N95 masks, with doctors and nurses having to, in some cases, reuse their masks against CDC guidelines.
