Care home keeps residents entertained with life-sized game of Hungry Hippos

Care home keeps residents entertained with life-sized game of Hungry Hippos”

Staff at Bryn Celyn Care Home in Maesteg, South Wales came up with the idea to keep spirits high while residents are isolated from their families amid the pandemic.

A nursing home in Wales has created a life-size version of the board game "Hungry Hungry Hippos" to help entertain residents while the facility is on lockdown amid the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Bryn Celyn said that the game boosted morale for both the residents and the staff and ended in peels of laughter.

"Everyone in the home team and residents are anxious about the virus", Michelle Williams?, general manager at Bryn Celyn Care, told CNN.

The general manager says residents are also filling their day with activities like cooking, quizzes, craft sessions and exercise classes.

The facility has not seen any coronavirus-related illnesses, but is keeping visitors out as part of its "stringent infection control measures". The object of the game is for each "hippo" to capture as many marbles as possible with its mouth.

They were filmed seated in a circle while holding an overturned basket at the end of a pole - with a huge pile of colored plastic balls in the middle of them.

The Bryn Celyn team uploaded a short video to Facebook on Thursday and it's since been viewed over 250,000 times and brought smiles to plenty of people across the internet.

Hungry Hungry Hippos is just one of the ways the residents are trying to keep busy.

"Lots of laughter to lift morale of the team and residents", the home said.

But that didn't stop the staff from finding a solution.
