CVS Health embarks on 'most ambitious hiring' drive in its history”

CVS said it is looking to fill numerous jobs with furloughed employees that worked at companies such as Marriott and Hilton.

Employee safety has been a focus for CVS Health from the start, and the company has been prioritizing distribution of protective gear to the hardest-hit areas.

The drugstore chain plans to hire furloughed workers from existing clients like Hilton Worldwide Holdings Inc. and Marriott International Inc., using virtual job fairs and interviews to hire at a time when Americans are being told to limit in-person contact and stay home.

CEO Larry Merlo said in a statement that the move is a way for the company to help its employees have peace of mind in uncertain times.

CVS Health Corp. will hire 50,000 workers across USA locations to aid in responding to the new coronavirus, as big pharmacy chains set up drive-through testing sites outside stores.

The company is paying bonuses of $US150 to $US500 to hourly workers including pharmacists, store associates, managers, and other hourly workers, the company said Monday.

Though full-time CVS Health employees have always had access to paid sick leave, the company said, effective march 22 the company has made 24 hours of paid sick leave avialbe to part-time employees for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company also announced that they will be giving some of their employees a bonus of up to $500 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Roles include store associates, home delivery drivers, distribution center employees and member/customer service professionals.

"This paid sick leave is in addition to the 14-day paid leave the company is providing for any employee who tests positive for COVID-19 or needs to be quarantined as a result of potential exposure", it is added in the press release.

Along with backup care, employees have also been offered additional paid sick leave.

As the coronavirus continues to sweep the globe, infecting more than 39,000 people in the United States, companies are stepping up to help those affected financially by the deadly outbreak.
