Mobile launches $15/month plan ahead of Sprint merger closing”

The new T-Mobile Connect plan was a Sprint merger-related promise that T-Mobile is accelerating. But due to the current climate, and many being out of work, T-Mobile chose to launch it early and help those that are affected the most by COVID-19 closings. In addition, a $25 per month version of the plan offers the same features with 5 GB of high-speed data. The plan includes unlimited talk and text plus 2GB of high-speed data (including access to 5G service) for $15 per month, which is half the price of its now lowest priced plan.

T-Mobile first announced T-Mobile Connect last November at a time it was trying to clear the last remaining legal hurdles for its proposed merger with Sprint.

Metro by T-Mobile will also begin offering the same plan on Wednesday as well as a $35-per-month hotspot plan with 20GB of data, though the new prices will only apply for the next 60 days.

T-Mobile this week also launched its lowest-cost smartphone plan, T-Mobile Connect, ahead of schedule. Half the price of our lowest-ever priced smartphone plan.

"Right now, having a reliable, low-priced connection is absolutely crucial for Americans, and with many facing financial strain, time is of the essence", stated John Legere, T-Mobile's leader government officer. From then on, we assume Metro's most affordable option will go back up to a $30 monthly rate, including the same aforementioned amenities. Starting this Wednesday (March 25), T-Mobile plans to launch its $15-a-month T-Mobile Connect plan, which provides 2GB a month alongside unlimited talk, text and data. Now, though, that timeline has been slashed, given the current need for more ubiquitous connectivity.

As people spend time inside, other T-Mobile network trends include more gaming time, with a 45% increase in video game traffic, along with a 38% bump in smartphone mobile hotspot usage as customers use cellular data to connect to devices like laptops and tablets in the home. T-Mobile has also teamed up with YouTube to give wireless customers a free two-month subscription to YouTube Premium starting March 24, to give consumers one more thing to do to encourage them to stay inside.

For the next two months, Metro is offering a $15 plan.

As the novel coronavirus pandemic forces businesses to shutter, T-Mobile claims Connect is ideal for Americans who are struggling financially. That's double the normal monthly limit.
