Plague Inc. Getting Free New Mode in Which You Fight a Pandemic

Plague Inc. Getting Free New Mode in Which You Fight a Pandemic”

The new mode is being developed "with the help of experts from the WHO, CEPI, and more", and will be free for all players during the current outbreak.

Work on this reverse version of the standard Plague Inc setup started after players began requesting a mode where they could save the world instead of bringing it to an untimely end. It would seem this donation is the primary focus of today's announcement, but of course, the mention of a new mode for an eight-year-old game is exactly the kind of stuff that should interest our audience.

Developer Ndemic Creations said it's "accelerating work" on the new game mode in response to requests from both the World Health Organization and the Coalition of Epidemic Preparedness Innovations. "Only through a concerted, global response-with the private sector working together with Governments and philanthropies, pooling resources and expertise-can we hope to stop such emerging epidemic threats".

UN Foundation President Elizabeth Cousens provided a comment as well.

Now doesn't really feel like the apposite time to play Plague Inc. - a game in which you create a virus with the objective of eradicating the human race. On top of the financial contribution, the United Kingdom studio says it's working with the World Health Organisation and other experts to create a new game mode aimed at curbing a global outbreak, not causing one.

As we noted back in January, the spread of coronavirus sparked a renewed interest in Plague, Inc. which saw record-high numbers of concurrent players on Steam. According to Ndemic Creations, you'll have to balance "managing disease progression and boosting healthcare systems" while also resorting to other measures such as quarantines, shutting down public services, and calling on people to adopt social distancing.
