'Top Chef Masters' Star Floyd Cardoz Dead at 59 Due to Coronavirus”

Cardoz died from complications from coronavirus at Mountainside Medical Centre in New Jersey on Wednesday, March 25, PEOPLE confirmed with the late chef's Hunger Inc. hospitality group.

"Bravo and the Top Chef family are deeply saddened by the passing of Chef Floyd Cardoz".

Chef Floyd Cardoz is the first reported case of corona death in the United States, today.

He was the co-owner of two popular restaurants in Mumbai, Bombay Canteen and O Pedro, and had recently launched his third venture, the Bombay Sweet Shop. Chef Floyd who was earlier in Mumbai left the city on March 8th for NY via Frankfurt airport. On March 18, Chef Cardoz had tested positive for COVID-19 at a NY hospital.

"As a precautionary measure, we have informed the Health Department in Mumbai about the same". "He is survived by his mother Beryl, wife Barkha and sons Justin and Peter. Floyd Cardoz flew back to NY from Mumbai via Frankfurt on March 8, 2020".

The "Top Chef Masters" star's death was confirmed to Indian media outlet,, with members of his family saying Floyd died Wednesday at a facility in New Jersey - where he'd been getting treated upon returning from an worldwide trip to Mumbai earlier this month.

Gauri Devidayal, who owns The Table and Mei13 said, "Chef Floyd was a global icon in the food world and one of the first chefs to put Indian food on the world map with his restaurant, Tabla".

The news of Chef Cardoz's demise has stunned the culinary world. In partnerships with Danny Meyer and Union Square Hospitality Group, the restaurant enjoyed an instant buzz after receiving three stars in the New York Times.

Chef Floyd Cardoz, victor of season 3 of Bravo's Top Chef Masters competition series, died Wednesday of complications from coronavirus. Soho's Paowalla, which was later transformed into Bombay Bread Bar, closed past year.

Cardoz also appeared on season 2 of Netflix's Ugly Delicious, a docuseries which follows award-winning chef David Chang around the globe.
