HBO makes programming available for free as part of #StayHomeBoxOffice

HBO makes programming available for free as part of #StayHomeBoxOffice”

The public will be available to stream without a subscription on HBO Now and HBO Go. For many of us-though obviously not all of us-that time is now.

Finally, there are twenty Warner Bros Theatricals that are going to be available to stream.

Why we care: Everybody has a "one day" show. Last week, WarnerMedia Entertainment and direct-to-consumer chief research officer Cheryl Idell said viewership on the standalone streaming service HBO Now had surged 40%, and that viewership of shows like The Wire had tripled, while The Sopranos' viewership had doubled.

At-home viewers will also be able to access a list of Warner Bros movies, including family films Pokémon Detective Pikachu and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, as well as feel-good films Isn't it Romantic? and Crazy, Stupid, Love.

HBO says that this is the first time that it has made this volume of programming available outside of its paywalls on HBO Now and HBO Go.

The promotion will also include 10 riveting original documentaries and docu-series including McMillion$, I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth v. Michelle Carter and The Case Against Adnan Syed.

The deal comes ahead of the launch of HBO's new streaming service HBO Max, set to launch next month.

However, Greenblatt said the move was not meant to be a part of that marketing push, which will ramp up in the next few weeks.

In a nice gesture - one that, of course, could lead to some new subscriptions - HBO has decided to make about 500 hours of its series available for free for a limited time on its streaming services.
