NBC Sports to broadcast IndyCar iRacing series

NBC Sports to broadcast IndyCar iRacing series”

The inaugural iRacing IndyCar Challenge at Watkins Glen International drew almost a half-million views Saturday on various streaming platforms, according to IndyCar.

Who can stop Sage Karam?

In the second round of the INDYCAR iRacing Challenge, the stars of American open-wheel racing will compete on iRacing's version of Barber Motorsports Park with a live broadcast of the action starting at 2:30 PM ET.

The opening round victor, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing-Chevrolet's Sage Karam, said he's been helping some of his more experienced IndyCar rivals who are rather less experienced at virtual racing.

Karam took post as well as led nearly 2 laps at the online Glen recently, pounding Felix Rosenqvist of Chip Ganassi Racing-Honda as well as Team Penske-Chevrolet's Will Power that established fastest lap.

Karam will lead a growing field of 29 drivers in the race Saturday, up from 25 drivers for the opener.

More than two dozen IndyCar drivers are expected to compete in this weekend's event, including Sage Karam, victor of the opening round at the virtual Watkins Glen International.

Other NTT IndyCar Series race winners entered in the race Saturday include Graham Rahal, Alexander Rossi, James Hinchcliffe and Colton Herta. Last week, Fox's televised Nascar esports race drew in 1.3 million viewers.

While the Watkins Glen race was a throwback to when the NTT IndyCar Series most recently competed there (2017), this weekend's race at Barber is a poignant reminder of the havoc wreaked on this year's schedule by the coronavirus pandemic. A single-file restart will follow this caution period.

The event will stream live on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports App. The event also will be available on INDYCAR's YouTube and Facebook as well as iRacing's Twitch.
