President Trump looking to put a hold on U.S. funding to WHO

President Trump looking to put a hold on U.S. funding to WHO”

"The W.H.O. really blew it", the president said in a statement on social media, using the acronym for the United Nations' organization. They (WHO) called it wrong.

"They said there's no big deal, there's no problem, there's nothing", the president said.

Trump's criticism of the World Health Organisation and its coverage of the Chinese fight against the pandemic comes as the U.S. continues to lead the world in the number of COVID-19 infections, with over 333,000 cases according to the WHO's data as of 7 April. "We're going to put a hold on money [sent] to the WHO".

"We could cut funding or we could tie future funding to certain changes", Scott added to the Daily Signal. They could've called it months earlier. "They didn't want to say where [coronavirus] came from".

Meanwhile, Senator Jim Risch, chairman of Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called for an independent investigation into the World Health Organization handling of the COVID-19 response.

But up until then, the WHO had consistently blasted countries that banned travelers from China, saying such measures merely increase fear and stigma against Chinese, all while having little public health benefit.

Reiterating his complaints from a tweet earlier in the day, the president said that the World Health Organization "has been wrong about a lot things". "It is completely unacceptable that the world's global health organization has become a political puppet of the Chinese government", he alleged.

"The United States is the largest contributor to WHO".

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, right, and WHO Health Emergencies Program Director Michael Ryan attend a press briefing on COVID-19 in Geneva, Switzerland, on March 6, 2020.

Earlier today, Trump said that he would be surprised if India did not allow the export of Hydroxychloroquine tablets to the United States and there may be retaliation if the supply is not allowed.

Another Republican senator, Rick Scott of Florida, called for a congressional investigation into the WHO and questioned whether the organization should continue to be funded since it engaged in "helping Communist China cover up" the seriousness of the virus and "willfully parroted propaganda" from China's Communist Party.

"The organisation's leadership is either complicit or dangerously incompetent".

Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr., entered the fray by supporting the suggestion that the WHO should be renamed as the "Chinese Health Organisation".
