Deadpool 2: Ryan Reynolds starrer slapped with fine over stuntwomans death”

Stuntwoman Joi Harris was killed after she was thrown off her motorcycle while performing a stunt for actress Zazie Beetz. According to reports, it was her first role as a film stunt performer.

WorkSafeBC has levelled almost $300,000 in fines against a Vancouver film production company for the death of a stuntperson during the filming of Deadpool 2.

Production on the film was halted for two days.

Competitive motorbike rider Harris was just 40 years old when she was ejected from her bike on the set and crashed through the plate-glass window of a nearby building in August 2017.

In a statement, the agency said: 'The primary objective of an administrative penalty is to motivate the employer receiving the penalty - and other employers - to comply with occupational health and safety requirements and to keep their workplaces safe'.

WorkSafeBC, the Canadian equivalent of OSHA, imposed the fine on TCF Vancouver Productions LTD for failing to provide a safe workplace for Harris, reported on Thursday.

Failure to provide the stunt performer with a new worker orientation.

"The employer failed to complete important health and safety documentation, including a stunt safety inspection checklist and a production activity notification checklist, as required by its own health and safety program".

An investigation into the incident found five violations of the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation.

In a statement today, WorkSafeBC said it hoped the fine would encourage the firm involved to take better precautions in future.

Harris' family reached an out of court settlement with 20th Century Fox for an unspecified sum last April.

Reynolds said he was "heartbroken, shocked and devastated", while Beetz sent "peace, healing and deepest condolences" to Harris's family.

"My heart pours out to them - along with each and every person she touched in this world".
