Boris Johnson Issues Update On Six Coronavirus Rules Ahead Of Lockdown Speech

Over the weekend the British Government unveiled a new slogan - "Stay Alert, Control The Virus, Save Lives" - a departure from the previous "Stay Home, Protect The NHS, Save Lives" slogan from the start of the crisis.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Sunday urged people to "stay alert" to coronavirus risks, as he prepared to outline plans for gradually easing lockdown measures that have shuttered much of the economy for almost seven weeks.

Housing minister Robert Jenrick said Johnson would set out a five-tier warning system to track the outbreak in England as the government makes limited changes such as encouraging those who can not work from home to return to their offices and factories.

"Many people will be puzzled by it".

The government faced further criticism from the leaders of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland following the change in message. "There has not been a four nations agreement or discussion on this", he tweeted. "This virus really does exploit ambivalence and thrive on ambiguity, we need clarity at all times".

Mr Drakeford also told Ridge that he expected England would follow an "incremental approach" to lifting lockdown restrictions rather than anything "more dramatic".

The devolved governments in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have already extended the lockdown for another three weeks.

Changes announced on Sunday will include allowing people to exercise a few times a day, British media reported.

The Welsh Government's technical advisory cell estimates the R value - the number of people the average infected individual would spread the virus to - to now be around 0.8 in Wales.

"This is the risky bit", Johnson told the Sun on Sunday newspaper.

"We won't do more until we are sure that we continue to have headroom between where we are in Wales, and where we would begin to get above that one figure".

Karen Dee, the chief executive of the Airport Operators Association, said she has not received any details about any quarantine plan but warned that it would have a "devastating impact" on the U.K.'s aviation industry as well as the wider economy.

Johnson also laid out a "conditional plan" for relaxing other lockdown restrictions in the coming months, including the possible return to school for some younger children on June 1.

A further 41 positive cases have also been diagnosed, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 4,119.

Asked if he thinks different rules on different sides of the border will be problematic, Mr Drakeford said: "I don't want to see fundamentally different rules because that is confusing for people and it makes the basic message hard to convey".
