Upcoming Chrome Browser Feature Lets You Group Together Multiple Tabs

Upcoming Chrome Browser Feature Lets You Group Together Multiple Tabs”

Google added a new feature called tab groups to Chrome Beta on Wednesday.

"There are two types of people in the world: tab minimalists who have just a few tabs open at a time and tab collectors who have significantly more", Google's Edward Jung writes.

Chrome tab groups are essentially exactly what you would expect - a way to group tabs together.

To use the new feature, you can right-click on a tab and choose "Add tab to group". The group name appears to the left of the tabs and the color is shown underneath the tabs and outlines the current tab.

Others, however, would organize tabs by urgency - labeling them things like "ASAP", "this week", or "later".

When will Chrome tabs be available?

I don't think I'll ever forget the day that BGR executive editor Zach Epstein shared his screen with me and incidentally revealed the unthinkable number of tabs he had open in his browser. Vivaldi supports Tab Stacks and Tab Tiling, for instance.

Everyone uses browsers differently and that's most apparent when you ask about tabs.

Google isn't likely too anxious about losing its majority market share to its rivals, given its near-complete dominance on the desktop. But Chrome has fallen from a 71.15% share of the desktop browser market in August 2019 to 67.15% as of April 2019, as other browsers made inroads.

Tab Groups are available in Google Chrome Beta for preview as of today. Similarly, tab groups can help keep track of your progress on certain tasks: "haven't started", "in progress", "need to follow up" and "completed".

The tab grouping feature is set to roll out gradually from next week, but anyone eager to try it out now can download the latest version of Google Chrome Beta for Mac.

By assigning related tabs to a group, you can make sure that everything for work, home, shopping, or other activities are all hanging out together to save you time when flipping back and forth.
