Arvind Kejriwal Condoles Death Of Migrants In UP Truck Accident”

The accident happened in the Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh state early on Saturday, when one of the lorries hit another parked at a roadside cafe.

Prior to that incident, six migrant workers were run over by a bus on a highway in Uttar Pradesh. The cops have retrieved injured labourers from the accident site and the wounded have been shifted to the hospital.

As per reports, the trailer truck was coming from Rajasthan while the DCM lorry headed from Delhi towards Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh. The trailer truck hit the DCM vehicle.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased.

At least 23 migrant workers travelling in a truck on their way home have been killed in a collision in northern India, the latest tragedy amid a humanitarian crisis caused by a nationwide lockdown imposed to try and slow the spread of coronavirus.

The migrants mainly hailed from the states of Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. "I express my condolences to the families of those killed and wish the injured recover at the earliest", he said. "He has also directed that all the injured be provided medical care and the Divisional Commissioner and IG Kanpur to visit the site and give the report on the cause of the accident immediately", the statement said. He also announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the migrants killed in the accident and Rs 50,000 for those injured, according to ANI.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi said the chief minister had also directed that SHOs of two police stations be suspended, and stern warning be issued to the concerned circle officers.

On Friday, Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered bureaucrats and police officers across the state to arrange buses and taxi cabs to ferry migrants back to their hometowns.
