Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light takes place

Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light takes place”

From the glitz and glamour, pomp and politics to the soaring pop songs and viral duds, the Eurovision song contest brings Europe and the wider world together in its own unique way every year. Find out more here. Today, the public will show an analogue of the final show of Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light ("Europe lights lights"), in which will participate the representatives of the 41 countries, among them, Russian band Little Big, who made the surprise to the audience.

It won't stop Europeans from celebrating: in place of the contest, Eurovision will live stream special programming featuring the 2020 performers.

Paul Harrington and Charlie McGettigan's Rock "n" Roll Kids is the runaway victor of our poll to find out your favourite Irish Eurovision Song Contest victor of all time - and it topped the vote by a huge margin. I'm gutted for the participants and followers that it's not occurring, yet we still have the songs, we still have the entertainers and we still have the remarkable Eurovision neighborhood worldwide. It will not be a competition, but instead be a celebration of the 41 Eurovision entries this year.

Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light will take place on Saturday 16 May on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 7pm.

Another segment of the show will see landmarks across Europe lit up to honour the Eurovision Song Contest, including the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Atomium in Brussels, the Verona Arena in Verona and the Acropolis in Athens among others. The show will also include performances from past winners and Eurovision faves and all 41 acts will come together from their separate locations to sing a rendition of 1997 Eurovision victor Love Shine a Light by Katrina and the Waves.
