Nets' Spencer Dinwiddie again merges cryptocurrency with his National Basketball Association future

Nets' Spencer Dinwiddie again merges cryptocurrency with his National Basketball Association future”

Fans will finally get the chance to decide where a player goes - if they are willing to pay up.

Spencer Dinwiddie's net guard began GoFundMe page Friday with the stated goal of increasing 2625.8 bitcoin, which is equivalent to $ 24,632,600. Dinwiddie said that if that number is met, fans will be able to play on a one-year deal with the minimum wage the team has chosen.

However, Dinwiddie could hand that decision over to his fans. "My/our biggest endorsers will always be the fans, so I want to have some fun while we're all under quarantine".

Dinwiddie is under contract next year, but he may step down next summer and become a free agent. "I hope no owners/team personnel participate so there's no impropriety on this one of a kind endorsement deal". It is unclear how fans would determine his next destination.

It started when someone on Twitter asked Dinwiddie if he'd delete all of his social media for 100 bitcoin, but Dinwiddie didn't take the bait. The league said he wasn't allowed to do so, and is now reviewing the tokenizing of Dinwiddie's contract.

Dinwiddie was a Pistons player from 2014 to 2016 and is spending his fourth season in the Nets that he joined in 2016. In 2019, reports indicated that Dinwiddie was planning to sell digital tokens tied to his $34 million contract extension, or at least a part of it. The 27-year-old is a League G product that has grown with the Nets.

The Colorado product was averaging career highs in scoring (20.6 points per game) and assists (6.8) per game when the 2019-20 National Basketball Association campaign was put on hold.

By Saturday afternoon, the campaign had raised a little more than $ 800.
