Samsung Launches ‘Galaxy A Quantum’ With Quantum Encryption Technology”

SK Telecom and Samsung recently pulled back the curtains on the Galaxy A Quantum 5G smartphone. The chip is developed by SK Telecom's subsidiary ID Quantique, which is based out of Switzerland. Called Galaxy A Quantum, the device is essentially a repurposed Galaxy A71 5G, launched earlier last month. According to reports on the device, quantum security generator chips are being looked at by smartphone makers as a solution towards cyber attackers using quantum computing technologies to crack weaker encryption standards. Those who purchase the Galaxy A Quantum after the pre-order phase will get a KRW 50,000 (around $40) discount coupon to buy the Galaxy Buds.

On top of that, the phone is also integrated with enhanced quantum cryptography. the cryptography is applied on the Galaxy A Quantum 5G through an advanced two-factor authentication (2FA).

Imaging options include a rear-facing quad-cam setup comprising of a 64MP primary shooter, a 12MP ultra-wide snapper, a 5MP telephoto camera, and a 5MP depth sensor. At the front, the smartphone has a 32MP selfie camera. The phone packs a 4,500mAh battery, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and runs Android 10 out-of-the-box. Its connectivity features include Global Positioning System, 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Breaking it down, phone houses the world's smallest QRNG chipset, measuring in at 2.5mm by 2.5mm. The phone will be available in black, blue, and silver.

Conventional random number generators now used in smartphones are often a target for attackers.

The quantum RNG chip has an on-board CMOS image sensor to detect photons, with this being the basis for the random number generation used for encryption keys. However, the QRNG chip (aka SKT IDQ S2Q000) only works with SK Telecom's services, which is kind of obvious.

The QRNG chipset enhances the security of various applications such as SK Pay, T ID login, and Initial.
