The number of active cases breached 7,000 on Friday, but the death toll from the pandemic remains at 98, extremely low by worldwide standards.

According to data compiled from official state and union territory government statistics, India has reported 85,798 cases and 2,678 deaths.

Andhra Pradesh reported 102 new cases on Friday, taking its tally to 2,307 cases, including 48 deaths.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said cash assistance should be given to the poor and vulnerable sections who are in dire need of money due to the lockdown.

Singapore on May 16 reported 465 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country's total count to 27,356, with a senior minister warning that the city-state may see an increase in the number of infections when it allows more activities to resume from June 1.

Struggling to curb the spread Covid-19 while the rest of Australia has begun relaxing a two-month lockdown, Victoria state reported 11 new cases, including some linked to known clusters at a meat factory and a McDonald's restaurant.

Australia has recorded just over 7,000 Covid-19 cases, including 98 deaths, significantly below levels reported in North America and Europe, but health officials continued to urge vigilance and encouraged people to stay home.

Including the deaths of 74 other patients-attributed to causes other than COVID-19 by states/UTs-the death toll reaches 2,753.

- Kerala has a total of 561 cases, with 493 recoveries and 4 deaths.

However, the total number of cases in Mumbai itself is more than that of many countries including Poland, Ukraine, Indonesia, Romania, Israel, Japan, Austria, South Africa, Philippines, Egypt, Denmark and South Korea. That's nearly twice as long as the average over the past month, when daily cases have been touching a new high every three days. The state has witnessed a surge in cases with the return of migrant workers.

Across the world, 44,43,597 people have tested positive for COVID-19 (according to the map by Johns Hopkins) as on May 15.
