The details surrounding the lockdown are not yet known, and will be issued by the Home Ministry.

According to the guidelines all domestic and worldwide air travel of passengers, except for domestic medical services, domestic air ambulance and for security purposes or purposes as permitted by MHA to remain prohibited throughout the country.

Ahead of the announcement, several states had extended the lockdown. In an order issued today, the NDMA said there is a need to implement the lockdown measures for a further period to contain the spread of coronavirus, which has led to the deaths of over 2,800 people and infected over 90,000.

The delineation of red, green, and orange zones will be decided by the respective State/Union Territory governments, after taking into consideration the parameters shared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, MHA said.

Hotels, restaurants, cinema halls, malls, swimming pools, gyms will also remain shut even as all social, political, religious functions, and places of worship will be closed till May 31.

As the nation gears up to enter the fourth phase of the lockdown, which will commence from Monday, peope wait for the new guidelines to be announced.

All other activities will be permitted, except those which are specifically prohibited. However, government has allowed opening of stadiums and sports complexes but without any spectators.

Earlier, Karnataka, Punjab, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu have made a decision to extend the lockdown till May 31. Tamil Nadu and Punjab too had extended the lockdown, although curfew restrictions will be eased in Punjab going forward. Modi had on March 24 announced the nationwide lockdown for 21 days.

The nationwide lockdown that the Prime Minister had first announced on March 24 was slated to end on May 17.
