Toothpaste trip sidelines Augsburg coach from Bundesliga restart”

Augsburg, who are positioned 14th in the Bundesliga table, appointed Herrlich as their new head coach on March 10.

Top-flight football competition is set for a return this weekend through German Bundesliga but Augsburg FC will have to play their first match after resumption without manager Heiko Herrlich.

According to a statement on the club's website, Herrlich apologised saying, " I made a mistake by leaving the hotel.

He was designated in March yet has yet to look after a video game, since the organization was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. "However there are situations which just require it", Herrlich told a news conference earlier in the day.

As well as comprehensive testing, teams are also required to remain in quarantine at all times.

However, he will now have to stay away from his squad and coaching staff until recording two negative Covid-19 test results, as per instructions for all teams in Germany's top flight.

This weekend's game was to be the former star of Borussia Dortmund and the first German global in charge of Augsburg. "Therefore, I will be consistent and keep my mistake".

"Even though I have followed all hygiene measures both when leaving the hotel and otherwise, I can not undo this", he said.

"Because of this misconduct, I will not be leading the training [on Friday] and will not be in charge of the team against Wolfsburg on Saturday".

With the Bundesliga becoming the first major league to return to action Saturday, Augsburg will host Wolfsburg behind closed doors at WWK Arena.

Also Thursday, it was confirmed that Bundesliga clubs will be allowed to use five substitutions per game when the season resumes.
