Under the banner of "Because of You, Life Doesn't Stop" Vitalant's network of donation centers, including those in New Jersey, in concert with its hospital partners operating under US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigational protocols, are collecting and transfusing plasma from eligible donors convalescing from COVID-19.

The request comes after the FDA's effort to offer another form of treatment for critically ill COVID-19.

"The people who took my blood deserve more credit than I do", says Wilbur. "We wanted to get them out there to the treating physicians and the general public as soon as we could".

Meanwhile, Dr Mai Raouf, Director of the Dubai Blood Donation Centre said that 600ml of plasma is collected from each patient who has developed antibodies.

A specific donor was needed for the Canadian Blood Services trial of convalescent plasma.

The announcement of the two new donor sites was made jointly by Gov.Phil Murphy, Red Cross New Jersey Region CEO Rosie Taravella, and Shereef Elnahal, President and CEO of University Hospital.
