8 more sailors aboard United States ship test positive a second time”

US Navy sailors assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt move ready to eat meals for sailors who have tested negative for COVID-19 and are being taken to local hotels in an effort to implement social distancing at Naval Base Guam.

Despite those setbacks the Navy is proceeding with the simulation.

Sailors who have tested positive are being sent back to the US Naval base on Guam for another round of isolation.

The infected sailor, who had tested negative before reboarding the Roosevelt, was quickly whisked off the ship, which is docked in Guam as Navy officials make preparations for the vessel to deploy.

An additional 18 crew members who have not shown COVID-19 symptoms have also been removed from the ship, Task & Purpose reports. "These protocols resulted in a small number of close contacts who were also removed from the ship, quarantined and tested".

Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman said the outbreak has been a learning process.

Some 18 others who came in close contact with the infected sailors have also been taken off the ship and placed into quarantine "out of an abundance of caution", a USA official told CNN.

One U.S. official familiar with the situation on the ship said commanders don't know why this is happening but suggested it could be related to questions about testing accuracy. The Navy official was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity. In some cases infection can be at such a low level that it is not detected by the test, which could mean there were no relapses.
