Andrew Cuomo Gets Tested for Coronavirus at Briefing”

During his Sunday morning press briefing on COVID-19, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced 139 more people died in New York State due to coronavirus on Saturday.

That's twice the national average.

"That person got infected and went to the hospital or that person got infected and went home and infected the other people at home", Cuomo said during his daily news conference on the coronavirus outbreak.

"You don't have to be NY tough to take that test", he said during the live broadcast of his popular daily briefing.

Testing had been limited to those with symptoms, healthcare and essential workers, and anyone who may have had contact with someone who tested positive for coronavirus.

Any individual who would return to the workplace in phase one of the state's reopening plan.

"That's something that we anticipated and that's just administrative and working together with the regions we can get that done, so that's good news", said Cuomo.

The state has also partnered with Google Maps to display testing site results. Cuomo said drive-thru and walk-in testing sites are performing about one-third of the 15,000 tests they're capable of each day.

Cuomo announced that NY is expanding its eligibility for diagnostic testing to include anyone who is returning to work as part of the state's "phase one" reopening - which includes people in construction, manufacturing and curbside retail.

An agreement with CVS will allow samples to be collected at more than 60 pharmacies across the state, Cuomo said. Each site will be able to conduct 50 or more tests per day.

The big picture: NY has so far conducted 1.3 million tests, with more than 350,000 confirmed cases of the virus, according to Johns Hopkins University data. New Yorkers can access additional mental health resources at headspace.com/ny .
