Canadian military plane crashes in British Columbia during flyover event”

Kamloops Airport, located just west of the city, said in a tweet that emergency crews were responding. It is not known whether anyone on the ground was injured in the crash.

Resident Cory Pelton posted a video on his Facebook page showing the two Snowbirds taking off from the Kamloops airport and films the one that eventually crashes. One pulled up, before twisting in the air and crashing back towards the ground. "After dropping for a second, I saw a small explosion and saw the pilot eject then the plane just drop and exploded".

Kamloops-area resident Crystal Cox says she and her family had left her home to go play golf when they received calls from residents of their neighbourhood and friends about the crash. The house is on fire. Both are OK, she said, noting she'd spoken with them after they were evacuated to a nearby street.

The plane reportedly hit a house and the pilot was able to eject before the jet crashed in the residential area.

"I just started running down the street".

"I heard these two huge bangs and all of a sudden up in the sky there was a dark black circle of smoke", said Kerri Turatus.

Kamloops is about 200 miles northeast of Vancouver. "I didn't see the pilot bail out but he bailed out late apparently". "It was incredible. I can't believe I saw it".

Federal Minister of Defence Harjit Sajjan said on Twitter that he was "deeply saddened" by the news of the crash, and offered his thanks to local first responders. He looked away and then shortly afterwards, heard a "pop" sound.

Another crew member was seriously injured when the plane hit a house in the city of Kamloops, British Columbia. No further information was given.

The Canadian Armed Forces Snowbird team has been travelling across Canada for 'Operation Inspiration, ' in an attempt to bring cheer to Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic and to honour frontline workers.

Under the spectre of the COVID-19 pandemic, a gunman killed 22 people in rural parts of the province, and a military helicopter from the Halifax-class frigate HMCS Fredericton went down over the Mediterranean Sea, killing six people - three of whom were from Nova Scotia.

About an hour before the crash, a tweet from the Snowbird's official account mentioned low cloud through the mountain passes and how this was a safety concern.

The plane, a Canadian Forces Snowbird, was one of two that took off at the same time.
