China reports 5 new coronavirus cases”

A worker disinfects an elevator at a residential community in Chuanying district of Jilin city, Northeast China's Jilin province, May 16, 2020.

- Chinese health authority said Saturday that it received reports of eight new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Friday, of which six were imported.

Four new cases were reported in Inner Mongolia, the commission said, adding that one new suspected case imported from overseas was reported in Shanghai.

Jilin City in northeastern China will temporarily close down all private clinics and hospital outpatient services from Sunday as its number of coronavirus cases increases, according to its health commission. However, they pose a risk of spreading the disease to others.

Altogether, 4,633 people have died of the disease in China and the country so far reported 82,933 cases, including 91 patients still undergoing treatment.

Explaining the recent resurgence of the coronavirus cases in the country, NHC officials said in the first half of May, most of the domestically transmitted cases of COVID-19 in China came from clustered infections.

The last day the commission reported a death was on April 14, its own records show, although the dismissal of infection and fatality rates flies in contrast to Chinese Communist Party (CCP) propaganda with Chinese dictator Xi Jinping admitting last week at a leadership gathering the Wuhan virus is still a major problem. The NHC said 619 asymptomatic cases, including 35 from overseas, were under medical observation.
