European season to finish by August: UEFA president”

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin in a press conference.

Both the Champions League and Europa League are but to full their last-16 matches.

Paris Saint-Germain, who were declared Ligue 1 champions, are looking to play their Champions League games overseas after the French government said professional sports would not be allowed to return before September.

The unwillingness to abandon the season is understandable and Uefa chief Ceferin believes most European leagues will be able to finish the campaign, albeit without supporters.

The Ligue 1 season has been ended early, with PSG being crowned champions by default, but UEFA clarified that they wouldn't have to play in preliminary qualification for the Champions League next season.

"We have a concrete plan of finishing the European season". The ones who will not, it's their decision.

Officials came to the conclusion after French authorities determined no sporting events could be held until, at least, September, meaning Paris Saint-Germain were crowned champions while runners-up, Marseille, will join them in the Champions League group stage, with third-placed Rennes settling for the third-qualifying round where fixtures are scheduled to be held in August.

The NI Football League said in a statement on Friday that clubs wanted to play the remaining games of the campaign, and that includes the Irish Cup semi-finals and final.

"If you can not play in your country, then you have to organize it at a neutral ground..."

Ceferin told beIN Sports: "We have an idea but we have to wait for the executive committee of Uefa to confirm the dates. But they will still have to play qualifiers if they want to participate in the European UEFA competition". Of course, this summer we will have to play without spectators at the stadiums.

Last month, BBC reported that UEFA meant to hold finals for the Champions League and Europa League - which bring together competitive teams from different nations - in August. He said "three cities have some issues".

"We have had talks with nine cities and everything is ready". So we will discuss further and we will, in principle, do it in 12 cities.
