Free access to the game overloads Rockstar Games' servers

Free access to the game overloads Rockstar Games' servers”

Popular video game publisher Rockstar Games who is behind titles such as Grand Theft Auto (GTA) and Max Payne has revealed it's now experiencing issues due to high player volumes. But it looks like it's not just the digital storefront, as Rockstar Games is also facing issues with high traffic.

The American video game publishing company posted a message on Twitter, stating, "Due to extremely high player volumes, we are now experiencing issues with access to Rockstar Games Services including the Rockstar Games Launcher and GTA V for PC". Those issues also appear to have been resolved now, but the whole situation is a monument to the game's massive ongoing appeal - it's worth remembering that GTA V first released in 2013, but is still bringing in huge numbers of players.

Epic Games Store is offering partial refunds to those who recently purchased a game shortly before it went on sale.

It's not really surprising that any of this is happening. GTA V is one of the biggest games of all time. Naturally, it being given away for free will draw unprecedented amounts of people to it, resulting in the spike in traffic.

To claim GTA 5 on your Epic Games account you'll need to make sure you have Two-Factor Authentication enabled.

You don't have long though, this wonderful deal will expire at 11am ET / 4pm BST on 21 May.
