MediaTek launches Dimensity 820 chip for smartphones - CRN”

MediaTek is attempting to make 5G extra accessible on less-than-flagship phones with the launch of the Dimensity 820 processor. Other features are also present, among which we can count improved ownlod speeds, support for Dual-SIMs, and the bleeding edge voice over new radio (also known as VONR), which replaces the popular VoLTE standard.

In a simpler explanation, it seems like the new processor actually has the most advanced known sub-6Ghz 5G technology all around for Asia, Europe, and even North America that is all built into a certain mid-to-high-end processor.

The MediaTek Dimensity 820 chipset comes loaded with an octa-core CPU with four high-performance ARM Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.6GHz. It supports up to 80-megapixel cameras and 120Hz displays, along with improved gaming performance via MediaTek's HyperEngine 2.0.

The newly announced 7 nm chipset is however a bigger upgrade over the 800 Dimensity than the Dimensity 1000 Plus has been over the Dimensity 1000. In turn, the SoC has the APU (AI Processing Unit or Artificial Intelligence Processing Unit) 3.0, which, according to MediaTek, offers 300% more performance than its direct competitors. It is part of the silicon maker's Dimensity lineup, but instead of the flagship-specific 1000 processor, this new Dimensity 820 offering is made with premium mid-range devices in mind. For video recording, the chipset is claimed to record 4K HDR video in both dark and well-lit environments. The chip is able to robotically capturing frames at completely different exposures and fusing them right into a single video stream for enhanced video output.

However, the new Dimensity 820 brings in major changes compared to the Dimensity 800. For more information and specifications visit the MediaTek Dimensity 5G solutions page.

In the coming days, we should be seeing more Chinese manufacturers coming out with new Dimensity 820-powered smartphones.
