NYC tourist arrested in Hawaii after Instagram pics showed him at beach”

"He allegedly left his hotel room the day he arrived and traveled many places using public transportation", the information launch scolded.

David Ige has extended the state's mandatory 14-day quarantine for visitors to the state through the end of June, during a Facebook Live video, and has discouraged visitors from coming to the state. Authorities were tipped off to the man disobeying the shelter-in-place order after they saw him post beach photos on his Instagram account.

Agents confirmed with hotel employees that they had seen Peters leave his room and the premises on numerous occasions throughout the week.

Some tourists have been arrested for defying the quarantine. As of May 8, 2020, the Honolulu Police Department had made four arrests, Kauai Police Department made five, Maui Police Department made two, and the State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General has issued eight arrests.

Peters completely ignored the order and left his hotel room to hit the beach. Hotel guests don't receive housekeeping services and must arrange for food to be delivered to them.

Bail was set for Peters at $4,000. He couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

Local sleuths realized he'd Instagrammed a photograph from Bryant Park only a week in the past, pegged him for a brand new arrival after which ratted him out to authorities.

At least 20 people have been arrested violating Hawaii's mandatory quarantine.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported that of the "about 858 passengers" that arrived in Hawaii on May 14, 318 were returning residents and 252 were visitors. They are called for to complete a paper recognizing that breaching the quarantine is a crime culpable by a $5,000 penalty and also approximately a year in jail, according to the state's transport division.

Hawaii Attorney General Clare Connors said in a statement that officials were grateful to local people who spotted and flagged Peters' "flagrant" behaviour in violation against the lockdown, which is aimed at curbing the spread of the novel coronavirus.
