Over 1900 COVID-19 patients have now recovered in B.C.

Over 1900 COVID-19 patients have now recovered in B.C.”

But before reopening, WorkSafe says businesses need to ensure they have a COVID-19 safety plan to protect workers and it must be displayed.

Starting Tuesday, restaurants, cafes and pubs, retail and personal service establishments, libraries, museums and galleries, office spaces and child care facilities may reopen, as well as parks, beaches and recreational facilities.

There have been 2,428 COVID-19 cases in B.C. There are 15 seniors' homes where there remain active outbreaks. But a wider public cooperation, along with a mass buy-in of the WorkSafeBC guidelines, is required for the restart to be effective.

Henry said the same rules for social interactions apply to businesses: fewer faces, smaller groups, shorter time together and bigger spaces.

"There can be no flexibility on this piece". "We are not yet at the place where it is safe to have many people gathering in an indoor environment, sharing food".

"We have to make a pact with each other that we are going to keep our germs to ourselves and stay away from others if we're feeling unwell", Henry said.

One additional death was confirmed on Saturday, marking the 141st person who have lost their lives to COVID-19.

Three more deaths have been recorded in the past day which brings the total to 135 provincially.

The Oppenheimer Group sent Business in Vancouver a statement saying that its warehouse, and adjacent work areas, have been professionally sanitized by an outside contractor and it remains open.

Henry said much of the spread in B.C.is due to people not recognizing the disease in its earliest stages. In all, 1,932 people have fully recovered so far.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 878 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 1,184 in the Fraser Health region, 126 in the Island Health region, 181 in the Interior Health region and 59 in the Northern Health region.

She reminded B.C. residents who work in industrial camps in Alberta to self-isolate for 14 days when they return home, adding that transmissions have occurred when people didn't realize they were carrying the infection.

There are now 58 people hospitalized from the virus in B.C. with 12 of those cases now in acute care/ICU. She said they should not be considered a substitute for physical distancing or other engineering and administrative controls.
