Ubisoft Sues Google And Apple Over Rainbow Six Siege Clone

Ubisoft Sues Google And Apple Over Rainbow Six Siege Clone”

"R6S is among the most popular competitive multiplayer games in the world, and is among Ubisoft's most valuable intellectual properties".

Ubisoft said it has notified Apple and Google that Area F2 is infringing its copyrights but the companies have refused to remove the game from the Google Play and Apple App stores.

Area F2 was created by Ejoy.com, a company that is owned by Chinese multinational technology company Alibaba. In a recent Bloomberg report, Ubisoft have claimed that "virtually every aspect" has been lifted from the extremely popular Rainbow Six: Siege, and that Area F2 is a "near carbon copy" rip-off.

Rainbow Six Siege is one of Ubisoft golden geese. So far, Google and Apple have yet to respond to the accusations. Both of the companies have made the game, Area F2 available on their play stores and play games. Curiously, Ubisoft did not sue Ejoy or Qooka Games, but the stores that host them, without explaining this decision. It was suggested that the game is trying to ride on the coattails of R6S' success and popularity.

"We are working with Ubisoft to develop an ambitious programme for avid fans of both franchises that will be aligned with the brands' DNA and the growth of esports as a cultural phenomenon".

This information does not even need much internal evidence to be considered valid, since several content creators on YouTube are highlighting this similarity in the title of the videos on Area F2, which, in less than a month of release, has already accumulated millions of downloads. While the allegation hasn't been proved yet, it will be illegal if Ubisoft proves that the game has been copied. It is interesting to see a major publisher finally addressing the issue. And if Apple and Google end up removing the game from their stores.
