Where is Storm Arthur now? Latest path and maps”

Forecasts say Arthur will stay well offshore of Florida, Georgia and SC on Sunday and then approach the North Carolina coast on Monday, where it will drop 1 to 3 inches of rain Sunday night and Monday.

A tropical storm warning was issued Sunday morning for Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Manteo, Wanchese, Hatteras Island, mainland Dare, mainland Hyde, Ocracoke Island, as well as Beaufort, coastal Onslow, Carteret, Pamlico, southern Craven, Tyrrell and Washington counties, where forecasters say tropical storm conditions are possible within the next 48 hours. There is better than a 50 percent chance of showers through Thursday, when there's still a 30 percent likelihood of precipitation, the forecast shows. The heavy rains are not expected to have an impact on central areas.

There is the possibility of isolated thunder storms and some powerful effects caused by the cold front in the area.

"There's a marginal risk of severe weather, but it will be nothing like April 13", Okulski said.

That's when more than 20 tornadoes touched down in SC, with eight confirmed in the Midlands region - the most significant outbreak for the area since March 28, 1984, according to the NWS.

"This will be run of the mill", Okulski said before looking forward.

More cloudy, rainy weather is expected later next week as we approach Memorial Day weekend - although that forecast is far from being locked in.

Additionally, hazardous surf and rip currents are all possible along the SC coast.

It is forecast to track north-northeastward during that time and will move near or east of the Carolinas early next week.

It's official: The Atlantic has its first named storm in 2020 and that designation is Arthur.

American forecasters are now predicting 14 to 20 tropical storms to take place this season, with additions also to the number of storms that become hurricanes being somewhere between seven to 11 this season.

"On the forecast track, Arthur will remain well offshore the east coast of Florida, Georgia, and SC today, and then move near or just east of the coast of North Carolina on Monday".

Showers are expected in the area into late Sunday afternoon, with a "rumble of thunder" possible.
