304 new cases of COVID-19 in Ontario as total nears 23000”

Ontario Health is reporting a slight dip in both new COVID-19 cases and deaths on Saturday after reporting the highest number of new cases in a week in yesterday's statistics.

There are now 972 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including 174 patients in intensive care and 133 on ventilators.

Peel Public Health says 141 residents have died in long-term care homes.

It's the 10th day in a row without a case, keeping the province's total number of confirmed cases at 260.

No new deaths have been reported for the third consecutive day, leaving the total at 55.

The Ontario NDP counter that the Ford government should increase testing and tracking COVID-19 cases to make re-opening safer.

There have been three deaths from COVID-19, while 249 people have recovered from the virus.

To date there remains five ongoing cases in the region.

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care said there are now 189 active LTC outbreaks provincewide, following the resolution of 85. The website says 133 patients are now using ventilators. Of the 553,981 tests conducted in Ontario to find these results, 2,189 are still pending. The province's public health agency has reported 910 deaths of residents in long-term care, 159 deaths of residents at retirement homes, and 52 hospital patient deaths related to outbreaks.

Ontario is reporting 340 new cases of COVID-19 and 23 new deaths.

That brings the total to 22,957.

Canada-wide, there have been 77,306 cases and 5,805 deaths with more than half of those infections and deaths occurring in Quebec.

The daily growth rate stands at 1.5 per cent today, which is lower than yesterday's growth rate of 1.8 per cent.
