Art Howe released from hospital amid coronavirus battle”

Former major league director and indoor field player Art Howe was released from a Houston hospital on Sunday after being in intensive care for coronavirus.

He told multiple media outlets he was happy to be back home.

Howe started to experience symptoms of the virus on May 3 and tested positive for it two days later. "It was a long five days or so".

Howe said he's feeling a lot better. Still unable to eat well, my taste buds are giving me a hard time. It's nice to be back at home and I hope to continue progressing.

Howe said he has to be isolated at home for at least another week.

Howe is synonymous with Bay Area sports having spent seven seasons managing the A's from 1996-2002 including the well-known "Moneyball era". He went to the hospital by ambulance Tuesday.

In 891 career games, Howe had a.329 on-base percentage, a.379 slugging percentage, 43 homers and 293 RBIs. His only postseason home run in three playoff trips was in the 1981 National League Division Series against Los Angeles.

Howe began his major league playing career with the Pirates, playing for Pittsburgh in 1974 and 1975. These teams became known for the unconventional method then used by general manager Billy Beane of using sabermetry to assess players.

Howe is probably most well known from Michael Lewis' book "Moneyball".

Howe, who isn't sure how he contracted the virus, also encouraged people to be careful, via the Houston Chronicle's Brian McTaggart.
