Britain announces hundreds more coronavirus deaths

Britain announces hundreds more coronavirus deaths”

NHS England releases updated figures each day showing the dates of every coronavirus-related death in hospitals in England, often including previously uncounted deaths that took place several days or even weeks ago.

NHS England mentioned its Covid affected person notification system didn't function for a time frame on Saturday, which can have impacted the variety of fatalities reported right now, which is decrease than can be anticipated.

Together with the 49,575 excess deaths in England and Wales reported by the ONS, this means the United Kingdom total across this period is 54,390.

The government's official rolling tally, which was 34,796 as of Monday, only records deaths after positive tests.

The figures do not include deaths in Scotland or Northern Ireland, which would add hundreds more to the total.

A further 12 people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in Wales, taking the total number of deaths there to 1,203, health officials said.

Tuesday's ONS figures show that 39,071 deaths involving Covid-19 had occurred in England and Wales up to May 8 and had been registered up to May 16.

The ONS total is 33 per cent higher than the Department of Health total.

Meanwhile, Downing Street has insisted care homes were not forced to take recovering Covid-19 patients back if they were not able to provide proper support.

Indeed, there have been more than 22,000 excess deaths - which is to say deaths above the seasonal average, in care homes over that period.

"Scientists provide advice to the Government, ministers ultimately decide".

The Prime Minister's spokesman said: "It's an option under consideration but not agreed Government policy".
