Detroit priest uses water pistol for socially distanced holy water blessing

Detroit priest uses water pistol for socially distanced holy water blessing”

A Catholic priest used a water gun to spray worshippers with holy water in a bid to maintain social distancing rules during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Father Timothy Pelc, a priest at St. Ambrose Church in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, was photographed using the squirt gun on Easter, while he wore a mask, face shield, and protective gloves.

The photos were taken on Easter, but Pelc has since inspired a Reddit Photoshop battle.

One shows the 70-year-old priest amid the fires of hell directing the water pistol at devil-like figures.

It's an internet law: once a post or photo about you goes viral, you must end up in a meme.

Father Pelc spoke with Buzzfeed News and talked about how he got the idea to shoot people with holy water.

"It was big in Ukraine, and the Germans are amusing, that led to a whole sub discussion about the types of water pistols", Pelc said.

"Not only is this safe, this is fun, ' and he came with his kids", Pelc said. "This comes from a guy who won't let his photo be used in his parish paper because it's 'not about me, '" he said.

Obama said: "More than anything this pandemic has fully, finally torn back the curtain on the idea that so numerous folks in charge know what they're doing".

MI has been hit hard by the coronavirus, with at least 4,891 deaths, behind New York, New Jersey and MA. Parishioners have tied blue ribbons on trees at the church for each person who has died of COVID-19 in MI.

He ran the idea by a friend who works in the local ER.

Several churches across the country have taken to holding drive-in Sunday services.
