Man angry about virus closure attacks 2 with machete”

A Nashville couple were attacked with a machete as they waited in an office at a Public Storage on Sunday.

The police department called the assault "callous, unprovoked and random" in a public statement and warned that the two victims, Kevin Craft, 55, and Leanne Craft, 50, are now in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Officers describe the attack as "callous, unprovoked, and random".

Edwards grabbed the machete from his bin at the storage facility and allegedly struck the couple - continuing even after they were bleeding on the floor, police said.

A call came in to 911 at 2:47 p.m. and Edwards was in custody three minutes later.

Kelvin Edwards, 35, is being charged with two counts of attempted murder after a machete attack at a storage facility on Sunday. The victims were transported to a hospital after officers who responded to the scene used multiple tourniquets to control their bleeding.

In an interview with a detective, Edwards said he was angry over coronavirus shutdowns and not being able to get into the Rescue Mission, a local homeless shelter, according to a release.

The couple, Kevin Craft, 55, and Leanne Craft, 50, were immediately taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and were listed in critical condition.

The specific shelter Edwards was angry about, Rescue Mission, has been issuing tickets for those staying there to ensure people use the same bed and follow CDC guidelines.

This wasn't Edwards' first run-in with the law.

"The investigation ... shows that Edwards, who is homeless, had a bin at Public Storage, which apparently contained the machete", the Metro Nashville Police detailed in a press statement. While in jail for felony vandalism in 2017, he spit on two sheriff's deputies, earning him two counts of assault for which he was convicted, according to police.
