Trump Says He's Taking Malaria Drug in Case He Gets COVID-19

Trump Says He's Taking Malaria Drug in Case He Gets COVID-19”

Trump was responding to a question about Dr. Rick Bright, the former director of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, who told Congress he was transferred to another job after he declined to be pressured to push hydroxychloroquine despite studies suggesting it could cause serious side effects, including death.

'I'm taking it - hydroxychloroquine.

He said he has "zero symptoms" of the coronavirus, is tested daily and has tested negative.

He said he's confident in the drugs because he's heard good things about them. And if it is not good, I will tell you right.

Trump said the United States pays around $450 million annually to the World Health Organization, the largest contribution of any country. I want the people of this nation to feel good.

The trial has since come in for intense scrutiny, with critics claiming it failed to meet the necessary standard criteria used in normal clinical trials.

"And it seems to have an impact - and maybe it does, maybe it doesn't - but if it doesn't, you're not going to get sick or die".

"I've taken it for one-and-a-half weeks now", Trump said.

"A lot of front-line workers are taking it", he said Monday.

But several subsequent studies - including one funded by the U.S. government - appear to have doused hopes that HCQ can help patients hospitalised with COVID-19. Two new ones published Thursday in the medical journal BMJ reached the same conclusion.

The Food and Drug Administration has granted temporary authorisation of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for coronavirus in hospitals where clinical trials are not available.

'If you look at that phony report that was put - in that report or the hydroxy was given to people that were an extraordinarily bad condition, extraordinary bad people that were dying.

"But I think they've done a very sad job in the last period of time".

The president said a doctor in NY wrote to him about treating his patients with both hydroxy and the z-pack.
