UCLA finalizes agreement for Martin Jarmond as sports director”

Boston College athletic director Martin Jarmond is finalizing a six-year contract to fill the same position at UCLA, according to multiple reports on Saturday. "BC valued Jarmond's performance and the way he'd modernized the athletic department after arriving at BC as the youngest athletic director in the Power Five'".

He will replace longtime Bruins AD Dan Guerrero, who announced a year ago that he would be retiring effective this July. He prevailed over fellow finalist Desiree Reed-Francois, the sporting director of Nevada Las Vegas who withdrew from reflection Friday.

In December, he fired football coach Steve Addazio after going 44-44 in seven seasons, replacing him with Jeff Hafley - the defensive coordinator at Ohio State, the school at which Jarmond had previously worked as deputy AD.

The Bruins' new athletic director will be tasked with addressing the school's $18.9-million deficit from the 2019 fiscal year. A 5-foot-9 point guard, he was a key contributor on the Seahawks' first NCAA Tournament team in 2000.

"(Jarmond gave) an antiquated department a needed jolt of energy and earning a reputation as a high-level fundraiser", Thamel writes. He also has postgraduate degrees in business and sports administration from Ohio University.

With athletics in the middle of a turnaround that began when Jarmond was hired three years ago, BC had made an effort to keep Jarmond at The Heights.
