Arquette reprising iconic role in new Scream movie”

The 48-year-old actor will be returning in the fifth film in the horror franchise as Dewey Riley, the lawman who appeared in the first four Scream films. The actor himself has wanted to echo his arrival once again at Scream."Scream has represented a huge part of my life, and for both fans and me, I hope to honor Wes Craven's legacy".

Scream 5 has confirmed that original cast member David Arquette will be reprising his role as Deputy Dewey for the sequel. "Jamie and Guy's fantastic script does that legacy justice and we're so excited to bring the next chapter of "Scream" to life." said the directing duo of Matt Bettinellit Oplin and Tyler Gillett who go under the name of Radio Silence. Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the team behind Ready or Not, are directing a script from James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

"It's impossible to fully express how much Wes Craven's work and the Scream movies in particular mean to us as fans and have influenced us as storytellers", said Radio Silence in a statement. We want it to be a love letter for the movies Wes and Kevin created together and for the fans, "said Vanderbilt. I'm thrilled to be a part of it". Williamson will serve as executive producer, along with Radio Silence's Chad Villella.

It was announced on Monday that the 48-year-old will be returning as Sheriff Dewey Riley, alongside fellow original castmember Neve Campbell, who played protagonist Sidney Prescott.

Arquette, who has found an unlikely second calling as a sporadic deathmatch wrestler since Scream 4's release, is officially back (via Bloody Disgusting).

I've really been looking forward to watching this new Scream movie.

The movie is the latest in the horror genre to be filmed in the Wilmington area.

Arquette recently co-founded XTR, a new production studio, and can then be seen in Brea Grant's upcoming stage comedy, 12 hour shift. Together the films have grossed more than $600 million.

While plot details are now scarce, it is being reported that the film will follow "a woman returning to her home town to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes".
