India won’t rush players back to training

India won’t rush players back to training”

Sports complexes and stadia were permitted to open without spectators by the Ministry of Home Affairs in the fourth phase of the coronavirus-forced lockdown, announced on Sunday.

BCCI will wait for more clarity before making a decision on the tour.

The cricketing calendar of 2020 was lined up two marquee T20 events in the form of Indian Premier League (IPL) and T20 World Cup in Australia.

"The BCCI has taken note of the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday for containment of COVID-19 across the country", Dhumal said in a press release.

All domestic and worldwide air travel - "except for domestic medical services, domestic air ambulance and for security purposes or purposes as permitted by MHA" - also remains prohibited.

"Taking into the account the restrictions on air travel and movement of people till 31 May, the BCCI will wait further before organizing a skill-based training camp for its contracted players", he stated.

"The lockdown has also been extended till May 31 and the Covid cases are still on the rise across the country and we need to give paramount importance to health of players, support staff and public", an IPL official told MyKhel.

According to Taylor, Cricket Australia (CA) must be pushing BCCI for the conduct of IPL in the window for the T20 World Cup, to expect them to tour Australia later in the year. He said a window would first need to open up in the cricket calendar in addition to governments worldwide allowing global travel so that overseas players' participation could be guaranteed.

It is a warm news for BCCI and IPL teams, who have waiting eagerly for some news in this direction.

However, BCCI will allow cricketers to resume outdoor training at their local stadiums.

In the meantime, the BCCI will study guidelines at the state level and will work in sync with State Cricket Associations to chalk out a programme for skill-based training at a local level.

Bangladesh are being similarly cautious for their three-test series in Sri Lanka in July and August.
