Stephen F. Austin facing postseason ban for low April”

Oregon State's men's basketball, men's golf, women's basketball, women's golf, rowing, soccer and softball each had ideal April scores for 2018-19.

The standard to avoid penalties and play in the postseason is an overall four-year rate from 2015-16 through 2018-19 of 930, a score that predicts a 50% graduation rate, according to the NCAA.

New Mexico's Anthony Mathis, center, scoring against Nevada on January 5, 2019 in an upset of the No. 6 Wolf Pack, was part of a Lobo basketball team that had a ideal April score for that season.

"The current state of our men's basketball program as it pertains to April has been hard for all parties involved", Alabama State athletics director Jennifer Lynne Williams said. This announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is meant to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.

From a multi-year perspective, which combines the April of the last four academic years, the men's and women's golf teams are Oklahoma State's best, both with ideal scores of 1,000. Women's Gymnastics tied for first and was one of 25 schools with a flawless score (1,000). "Our academic unit, coaches and staff are committed to helping our student-athletes always strive for excellence". Indiana's overall combined April score for 2018-19 is 979. Northwestern led all Big Ten football programs (shocker) with a score of 995. Two programs - men's golf and women's golf - have four-year 1,000 point scores. The two lowest program scores for the multiyear April at NMSU are men's cross-country (949) and football (956).

Lobo basketball was last hit with a scholarship loss based on the 2006-07 April score under former coach Ritchie McKay.

At NMSU, the last April penalty was a practice reduction penalty for men's cross country after a 929 score following the 2016-17 season. Individually, the golf and rifle teams posted ideal scores of 1,000. Aggie men's basketball was last hit with a penalty after the 2007-08 scores were posted. Athletic director Kenyatta Walker, however, cited improving single-year scores as well as better marks in other sports as examples of progress the school's athletes have made in the classroom.

Programs are required to meet a four-year average of 930 in order to maintain eligibility for NCAA Championship competition. Teams with 980-989: football, men's ice hockey, men's lacrosse, women's cross country, women's rowing, women's fencing, field hockey, women's ice hockey, women's lacrosse, softball, women's track and field and rifle.
