Hockenheim sees opportunities for GP rise: "England's decision affects us"

Hockenheim sees opportunities for GP rise:

Arrivals in the United Kingdom will be forced to quarantine for 14 days from June 1, but a number of sports were lobbying to be on a list of exemptions because they would be carrying out regular and stringent testing in order to restart.

An F1 spokesperson said the sport was still seeking an exemption to the UK's isolation laws.

The Government has still to be persuaded, fearing that a dispensation for F1 would encourage other sports to appeal for exemptions from the quarantine rules.

With no sign that F1 personnel would be exempt from the quarantine, it would make the British Grand Prix nearly impossible to hold, given three of the sport's 10 teams, plus tyre supplier Pirelli, are based outside of the UK.

The newspaper quoted a Downing Street source as saying "a final decision hasn't been made - but we do want the regime to be robust", adding that the rules would be reviewed every three weeks.

But Pringle warned that it won't only be the three F1 teams based overseas - Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and AlphaTauri - that will be facing logistical and travel challenges ahead of Silverstone's events.

Furthermore, a number of suppliers are based in Europe - including F1 tyre supplier Pirelli.

"Quarantine would make it impossible to have a British Grand Prix this year", the spokesperson told the Daily Mail.

After the claim by motorsport chief Ross Brawn that the sport can create its own "biosphere", F1 is making detailed plans for the cordon sanitaire that it intends to establish around the first two races in Austria on July 5 and 12.

A potential European calendar seen by RACER had races taking place at Silverstone on July 26 and August 2 - with Hockenheim as a back-up - before a round in Hungary on August 9.

F1's season is on ice as a result of the coronavirus crisis.

Silverstone boss Stuart Pringle has acknowledged that travel restrictions are one of the major challenges that the sport faces.

"So there do need to be robust solutions and solutions that need to meet not just the requirements of this country, but also other countries in the championship, because there won't be a championship if the only place that F1 can run is Great Britain. We hope to be able to allow fans to attend in the latter part of the year".

"I have hopes that those solutions will be found".
