Coronavirus: US family escaping Covid blues find $1.6 million on road”

The Schantz accidentally hit the bag with their pickup truck before spotting a similar bag about 15 feet away. The exact reason why those ended up in the middle of the road in Goochland County was yet to be ascertained. The Schantz family, however, didn't have time to do the same.

The Schantz family were out for a drive in Caroline County in Virginia when they saw a auto ahead swerve due to an object on the road. She put the bag in the vehicle along with a second bag that she found nearby. They later picked up a second bag on the side of the road.

"When they did, it appeared to be mail".

However, when they returned home and went to throw out the "trash" they discovered something unusual about the bags.

Though the family has only received a thank you from the sheriff's office, perhaps the intended recipient of the lost loot will feel grateful that this family didn't turn the funds into their personal stimulus package!

"Inside of the bag, there were plastic baggies and they were addressed with something that said 'cash vault, '" Emily Schantz told CNN affiliate WTVR. Cops determined the amount totaled almost $1M.

Virginia family finds, returns $1 million found in middle of the road

Within the two larger bags were smaller ones, each containing some information on where the money should have been deposited.

"Who it actually belonged to, where it was going", Moser said.

The United States Postal Service is now looking into the matter.

The USPS is now working to get the money back to its rightful owner.

Major Scott Moser praised the family's integrity. "I'm sure it'd be hard to make that decision".

While the family initially thought nothing of the sacks as they sat in the bed of the pickup truck, they later realized that they had been carrying around nearly $1 million in cold, hard cash. "But they did the right thing".
