Good and bad news about ‘Some Good News’”

There has been a whole lot of bad news in recent months thanks to the current health crisis, and John Krasinski thought it was a good idea to start a show about the not-so-bad news.

"Could not be more excited and proud to be partnering with CBS/Viacom to be able to bring Some Good News to so many more people!" the actor said in a statement.

The YouTube series dedicated to good news, often related to everyday people, has been licensed to ViacomCBS after what the Hollywood Reporter describes as a "massive bidding war".

Krasinski aired his last episode of Some Good News - his YouTube show that shares exactly what the name implies - this week, presumably concluding that there was no room to grow after marrying a couple on Zoom.

While "Some Good News" seems like an idea perfectly tailored for the coronavirus pandemic, both outlets reported that Krasinski first came up with the concept seven years ago - though he only chose to finance and produce it himself in March. "Never did I expect to be joining the ranks of such a historic news organization as CBS". Episode 7, which featured a cast reunion of sorts of The Office, now has 11 million views. Krasinski, however, would not host the new show as he's done on his YouTube channel, though he will executive-produce and likely have a recurring on-air presence. The show, filmed in Krasinski's own home, went on indefinite hiatus Sunday after eight episodes.

The Quiet Place auteur began Some Good News at the end of March, as a response to the crushing amount of stress-inducing news coming out in relation to the coronavirus pandemic.

The potential pact would include a weekly Some Good News series, expected to be available on CBS All Access.
