Nurse Mike Schultz’ drastic transformation shows how Coronavirus can ravage one’s body”

Mike Schultz, a 43-year-old nurse from San Francisco, has shared photos of the devastation COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, had on his body. The dramatic bodily change after contracting coronavirus, led nurse Mike Schultz to lose over 20 kg weight after shedding off the virus.

But after dropping 50 pounds amid the ravages of COVID-19, Schultz made a decision to share two images to his 30,000 Instagram followers - one taken about a month before he fell ill, the other snapped at a Boston hospital.

In an interview with BuzzFeed News, Schultz explained that he had been traveling with his boyfriend earlier in March, and upon admission to the hospital, he was given oxygen and prepared for intubation. He wanted to share the lasting impact COVID-19 can have on people who are otherwise considered healthy to encourage others to take the virus seriously. "I had no prior medical issues". Several cases have since been linked to that festival.

The couple say they've received a lot of abuse for attending the Florida festival, with some people saying Mr Schultz deserved to get sick. It can affect you, "she said".

"I wanted to show everyone how badly being sedated for 6 weeks on a ventilator or intubated can be", Schultz said. I thought I was young enough that it wouldn't affect me, and I know a lot of people think that.

But just a week later he began feeling ill, and within days he was in hospital with a bad fever and fluid in his lungs as he began a weeks-long fight for his life.

"I was so weak", he said. I couldn't hold my cellphone - it was so heavy. "I pretty much cried when I looked in the mirror". According to Schultz, he took the photo standing up and had already felt exhausted after a couple of minutes of doing so.

Schultz and Hebblethwaite celebrated his recovery with some McDonald's ice cream last week. Over 8 weeks I've been away from family and friends Getting stronger everyday and working to increase my lung capacity. "I'll get back to where I was in healthier ways this time.maybe even do cardio", he captioned the photo.

Though he knew about the virus, Schultz told BuzzFeed News because he was young and had no pre-existing conditions, he figured he could risk a trip to see his boyfriend, 29-year-old DJ Josh Hebblethwaite, perform at the festival. If you develop symptoms, contact public health authorities.
